Vicenza - Week 7

Well hello there everyone!

I have officially started the mission in Italy. My first area is the Vicenza A mission. It is a little city in the North east half of Italy. My companion is Anziano S. He is a cowboy/army dude. He is sooo country, but he is pretty chill. He has been out for about 14 months so he knows a lot of stuff. Fun fact, he was companions with Anziano M. right before me, so when we met, he already knew who I was. The area is pretty nice. Tons of graffiti but that is everywhere in Italy. We have a US military base in our area too. The other set of missionaries do more work there but we have an English ward of 200 that we go to every Sunday. We also have an Italian Branch of about 50 active people. The area has been tough lately. Anziano S. told me that he and Anziano M. have been having a hard time finding people to teach. The members of the Italian branch are nice people but they don’t help the missionaries out a lot. We have been doing anything we can to try and find someone to teach. We make phone calls all day, go into the center of the city and hand out pass along cards, and are currently trying to find ways to serve the community, because we don’t have a lot of investigators. We teach a lot of African refugees though, a lot only speak in English too. I have taught 4 people in Italian so far. Being out on the streets is nice because I still here Italian no matter where I am. And my companion is doing his best to help me learn. It will definitely be a while until I am fluent, but such is life. There are a lot of Jehovah Witnesses here so it also makes helping people hard, because they think we are the J.W. and they don’t like them.

Our apartment is pretty dang big. When Anziano M. came into the area (1 transfer before I got here) we pink washed the sister missionaries and took over their area and apartment. It’s nice and roomy. The food isn’t that bad either. Have had a lot of pasta, beans, rice, oatmeal, etc. It’s not that terrible though.

We have been fasting to find investigators, but we are definitely at rock bottom in this city. But we have nothing to lose and we think we can turn this area around, so we’re fighting. It’s hard, but hopefully we can do something good. When I was talking to people on the streets they would look at me and either just walk away or try and clarify what I was saying. It’s pretty sad but funny at the same time.

Hopefully we can turn this city around. I know through hard work it can be done. There is some reason I was sent here for my first area, so I’m trying to do my best. Just taking each day and writing down something you are grateful for every morning and night makes a huge difference.

Have fun in the States or wherever you are!!!

Last Day at the MTC

Hey everyone!
Today is officially my last day in the MTC. Tomorrow morning I will be off on a plane to ITALY! My time in the MTC has been a blast and there are so many memories I have already created on my mission, just from being here. I will let everyone know where my first area is. My teacher Sorella Nilson predicted I will start off in Como, up near the tip of Italy by Switzerland. My other teacher Fratello Guest predicted I will start off in Alessandra. Where ever I go I am just so excited to get started. I will have a new address, so don’t send a letter to the MTC, or they will just send it back to ya... I can’t wait to meet the Italian people, the landscape, the food, and the experience.
Anziano S.'s birthday was Thursday and with the help of a few sisters, I was able to throw a nice big surprise for him, a poster decorations and balloons.I gave a blessing to the sister in our district who left for Romania today. Going to be giving more blessings tonight.  Excited to finally get going. Can’t wait to eat either CafĂ© Rio or Panda tomorrow morning for breakfast, because it’s not MTC food.

Here are some final pictures that we took the last few days here in the MTC

Ciao!!!

MTC - Week 5

Hey everyone! I got my travel plans for Italy...... I GOT MY TRAVEL PLANS FOR ITALY!!! I leave on the 16th (Tuesday). I fly to Chicago, then London, then Milan. Boy is that going to be a long day. I am super excited though. I may not be fluent in Italian, but I am so ready to go. I might be able to email the day before I leave, but if not the next time I email it will be from the other side of the world!!!
This week was a roller coaster. I taught several discussions, and one time I got to skype a lady in Toscana, Italy. Her name was Adina, and she was a member, but it was pretty dang cool being able to talk with a real Italian. I also worked on my scheduling with personal and companion study to help my companionship grow. I started specifically planning out each hour of study and what I wanted to get accomplished, and it has made all the difference.
One of my companions had trouble this week not knowing why he came, so I had made it my goal to help him. It was hard this week with him because he is a very snappy person, and likes to always be the one calling the shots. I have been working on humility wondering if I wasn't doing enough to help him. My teacher Sorella Nilson noticed and talked to me about it. She challenged me to do something she was asked to do on her mission which was to study to word "meek". She told me that sometimes it is hard to feel like you're doing enough when your companion is struggling and causing trouble, but there is always a reason behind it. She had me read a scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 90:24.

But overall the week slowly got better. I am really excited to get to Italy, I have no idea where my first area is going to be but I can’t wait to get started!
I know this gospel is true and I am going to quote something that was said at the Tuesday night Devotional by Joseph W Stiate of the 70. "The gospel is the best gift you have ever received and is the best gift you can ever offer.
I’ll send pictures later!!

MTC - Week 4

Hey Everyone,

I officially leave for Italy in 14 days!! It feels so unreal to be a month in already, but the days are flying and sooner than later, I'll be coming home. One of our teachers had to start school, so we are getting a new teacher for the last weeks, but as much as I'll miss my teacher, there is something new I will learn from this new person. I am so excited to go out and teach the people of Italy.

We've been talking a lot lately about helping those who get baptized or have been already baptized, and how we can keep them active in the church. We are losing so many members to inactivity because we are not doing the simple things, like giving them callings, being a friend CONSTANTLY, and making sure they still grow in their gospel knowledge and testimony. That has been a big concern for the MTC presidency, so they are hitting us hard with that.

Now that my companion Anziano W. is in Italy, I now teach with my other two companions. It is much more difficult than I would like it to be, but they both bring a different trait to each lesson. They both struggle with the language more, but they sincerely try to teach from their heart.

I was called as the new district leader for my district, and it is a challenge. I have been trying to exercise Christ like leadership, and it just shows how much I have to work on. I am grateful for my calling and I hope it helps my companionship and district grow.

I get my travel plans for Italy on Friday hopefully. I can’t wait to have to pack my bags and get my travel weight the right amount...........

I love this gospel and every time I share the first vision of Joseph Smith, I believe it happened even more than I did before.

I molto grato per voi!!

In the MTC four square is the game to play. I am known as the clutch chase, and the king spot and I are friends... We often have nationality wars. Especially Germans vs Italians, but we all know who comes out on top..... Forza in Italia.
